Frequently asked questions
Applying
How do I apply?
Click Check your rate. Your application opens on our secure application site, apply.oro168.ca. You can also call us and we’ll guide you.
What do I need to apply?
A driver’s licence, a PR card or Canadian passport, a pre-authorized debit form or void cheque, proof of address (a recent bill), your 2 most recent pay slips, and 60 days of bank statements. Full list.
How long does it take?
About 5 minutes to check your rate. Verification and signing usually take a little longer, depending on your bank.
Who can apply?
Anyone who has reached the age of majority in their province, lives in a province we serve, has regular income, a Canadian bank account and photo ID.
How much can I borrow?
Between $1,000 and $15,000. The amount we offer depends on your income, existing debts and credit history.
What can I use the loan for?
Most personal costs, such as repairs, moving, medical bills or paying off higher-interest debt. We don’t lend for business purposes.
Can I apply if I’m self-employed?
Yes, if your income shows up as regular deposits in your bank account. We’ll tell you if we need anything else.
Do you guarantee approval?
No. No responsible lender can. We check that the payments fit your budget before we lend.
What happens if I’m declined?
We’ll tell you, and give the main reasons where we can. Common reasons and alternatives.
Do you have a branch I can visit?
No. We serve borrowers online and by phone only.
Credit check
Will checking my rate affect my credit score?
No. Checking your rate uses a soft credit check, which only you can see. It doesn’t change your score.
When do you do a full credit check?
Only if you accept an offer. That’s a hard inquiry, which other lenders can see on your credit report.
What’s the difference between a soft and hard check?
A soft check is visible only to you and doesn’t affect your score. A hard check is recorded on your report and can lower your score slightly for a short time.
Which credit bureau do you use?
[Equifax / TransUnion].
Can I get a loan with bad credit?
Possibly. We look at your whole situation, including income and existing debts, not only your score.
Can I apply with no credit history?
Yes, you can apply. Without a history we rely more on your income and banking information.
Will paying on time help my credit?
[If we report to credit bureaus:] Yes. We report your payments to [bureau], so on-time payments can help build your credit history.
Why was my credit check different from what I expected?
Your report may include accounts or inquiries you didn’t know about. You can get a free copy of your report from Equifax and TransUnion and dispute any errors.
Rates & fees
What APR will I get?
Between 9.99% to 34.99% on approved credit. You’ll see your exact APR before you sign.
What is APR?
The annual percentage rate is the yearly cost of your loan, including interest and any charges the law requires us to include. It lets you compare loans fairly.
How is my rate decided?
By your credit history, income, existing debts, and the amount and term you choose.
Is my rate fixed?
Yes. Your rate and payment stay the same for the whole loan.
Is there a maximum rate?
Yes. No rate we offer or show is above 35% APR, the legal limit in Canada.
Are there any fees?
Every fee is listed on Rates & fees and in your loan agreement. There are no hidden fees.
What is the cost of borrowing?
Everything you pay on top of the amount you borrowed, shown in dollars. It’s in your offer before you sign.
Why do you show a representative example?
So you can see a realistic cost before you apply. Our calculator uses our representative APR, not our lowest, so it doesn’t under-state what you might pay.

How do I make payments?
Payments are taken automatically from your bank account by pre-authorized debit on the dates in your agreement.
Can I choose how often I pay?
Yes. You can choose monthly, every two weeks or weekly payments when you sign.
Can I change my payment date?

What if I miss a payment?
Call us as soon as you can. A missed payment may lead to a fee of [$ amount] and can affect your credit. We’ll work with you to get back on track.
What if my payment bounces?
Your bank may charge you a fee, and we may charge [$ amount]. Call us so we can arrange a new payment.
I’m having trouble paying. What can I do?
